Staples, Office Depot, OfficeMax, and other office supply stores take empty compatible cartridges in-store or by mail for recycling.
But there are some important details you need to consider:
- Office Depot, Office Max offers:
- Recycling in-store (up to 10 empty cartridges per month)
- Recycling by mail (you must fill the box with a minimum of 20 items or 20 lbs of a mixed product)
- Please note that you must buy $10 that month in qualifying purchases to be able to recycle cartridges.
- Staples offers:
- Recycling in person at a Staples store (up to 10 empty cartridges per month)
- Recycling online is possible at Staples but for limited cartridge models (virgin mostly)
- Please note that you must buy $30 that month in qualifying purchases to be able to recycle cartridges.
- To find other recycling points in your area, go to Earth911.com, search “Inkjet Cartridges,” enter your zip code, and find the most convenient location for you.
❗️ Every recycling center has its requirements, whether it’s the type of cartridges they take (OEM/remanufactured/compatible), specific cartridge models, amount or weight of the box, etc.
Therefore, please contact the recycling center to make sure they can cover your request.
♻️ What are some other ways to recycle remanufactured Smart Ink cartridges?
- Send your old cartridges to Ink Recycling.
The following Smart Ink remanufactured cartridge models are applicable:- ✅ HP: All models except for 67XL (Color, Black) will be accepted
- ✅ Canon: 240XL, 241XL will be accepted, 245XL, 246XL will not
- ❌ Epson: Will not be accepted
- Keep in mind that a minimum total of $10 is required to recycle through this service.
So you need to collect approximately ten cartridges to be able to send them for recycling. - It’s required to mark the bag with the label “remanufactured” before sending them.
- Also, note that you will not get credit for remanufactured cartridges.
- Ship your old cartridges to the Cartridges for Kids program and help schools and other organizations raise funds.
